Really old chain driven pocket watch with
silver additional case for this watch to fit in. There is a
green watch repair paper in the case back but a closer examination
reveals that there are 6 other papers under this one and some
are dated and most are thin paper with the jewelers or repair
man’s name and date. One is dated 1881, A other is dated
1834 and others. On the back of the one dated 1834 is the jewelers
name "Spurce & Aphey Clock & Watch Makers Somerset,
Ohio. The 2 most recent ones in green are from jewelers in Zanesville,
Ohio but these too are very old. There is the repair history
inside the back of this case. Very interesting. This one is
in a silver case and so is the outside case that this watch
fits into. This is a real history lesson and comes with 2 old
keys, one winds the watch, the other sets the speed. This one
is not running and is sold as is. Measures 58 mm from side to
side. I can only guess that it was handmade in England in early1800's
but maybe older. No glass crystal and needs repair but it has
the chain on it. |
